As proud sponsors of the Swallowfield 10+3 and duathlon, which again was a fantastic success, we thought we would put up a few pictures from the days and show you what getreading had to say about it!

Runners pound the streets of Swallowfield in village 10k

Runners pounded the pavement as the fifth Swallowfield 10k, duathlon and 3k fun run got underway.

A huge 103 entrants, including 1st Swallowfield Scouts, entered this year’s fun run on Sunday which began after the 247 runners set off on the 10k.

The duathlon, now in its third year, attracted 150 entrants who completed a 6.7km run through Farley Hill, followed by an 18.5km cycle before finishing with a 3.7km run around Swallowfield.

Derek Scuffell, chair of 1st Swallowfield Scout Group which organises the event, said: “It went very well. We put out the largest field we have had.

“These multi-discipline races are becoming more popular and this year we had 150 entrants which is really good news.”

The fun run was advertised within Wokingham District Scouts and promoted as part of the Scout’s Fit for Life pattern.

To prepare for the event, the Scouts took part in 15 minutes exercise at each meeting during the last term.

Mr Scuffell added: “This event is our [1st Swallowfield Scout’s] single fundraiser for the year. All in all it was a great success.”
