Wednesday 5th April
Surrey League
Woking 0 – 1 Wokingham
Surrey League champions, Wokingham District U11s, ended their league campaign with another win over Woking beating them 1-0. The win means that Wokingham finished the league with a unbeaten record – with the only blemish being a draw away Sutton.
The game was not the prettiest though as Woking made it hard for the champions to get into any sort of rhythm which meant chances were hard few and far between particularly in the first half. When Wokingham were able to get the ball down play they were able to create chances which unfortunately Waight and Muza were unable to put away.
The Wokingham defence remained strong and limited Woking to long range efforts. In the last ten minutes of the second half, Wokingham were able to smile as Brandon Kingsbury was put through on goals after some excellent link up play which he was able to place past the goalkeeper into the bottom corner. The final whistle eventually went and the league winners were able to end their league run with another win and a clean sheet.
It has been a very successful season for the district team – winning the Surrey League, winning the Danone Nations Cup South West Regional Finals and finishing runners-up in the Southern Counties League. The season is far from over as the team now go on tour to Jersey on Saturday for a week to take part in the annual English Schools FA Jersey Festival which includes district associations from across the country. After the tour, the team then play Newbury in the annual Berkshire Cup game and then head to Stoke City FC’s Bet 365 Stadium on Saturday 20th May for the Danone Nations Cup National Finals.
