Abbey Youth v Finchampstead Hurricanes
The Hurricanes with four missing players took on last years Chamionship winners (Abbey Youth) in the final pre-season friendly.Abbey Youth were the only team the Hurricanes didn’t draw/win against last season, but had success against the two teams who managed to beat the champions…..
This was going to be another tough fixture.
The Hurricanes played amazingly well with a very disciplined first half performance, neutralising and containing Abbey. And also creating a number of opportunities for themselves. The quality win their passing was there, their pressing was relentless, formation well organised and balanced, they played with confidence as a team. They dominated midfield and worked on their possession football under pressure as per the briefing instructions.
0-0 half time
Second half was harder to get going with the lads tiring and only one sub, the quality in the passing dropped off slightly and their shape was more ragged. Abbey capitalised with 2 quick goals, both from goal mouth scrambles. Ben A kept the lads in the game with some amazing saves. Once they settled back into the game and relaxed on the ball, they got their shape and quality back, and got stuck into Abbey again.
An edge of the box screamer following a corner from the Captain (Jacob) rallied the team and they could have got the equaliser.
Full time 2-1 to Abbey Youth
The lads showed they had learnt a lot from Mondays U16s game (ps. well done to Morgan for getting Man of the Match for Monday’s game) and Thursdays training session on creativity. Absolutely brilliant performance,
Well done Hurricanes!!
Next Sunday Fichampstead play Wokingham and Emmbrook Oranges in the county cup.
