Monday 8th April Finch vs Westwood Wanderers

The last game of the season- and we had it all…

Goals, perfect passing (plus an incident off-ball).

Showing speed and skill, Finch played as a team-

Probably the best of the season that we have seen.

Finch starts fast with great overlap runs

Between Jake Ma, Lucas S, George and Mstr Bunn

Jake Ma is a terrier down the left side

Enabling the game to be spread out wide.

Lucas C fights hard in his midfield role

Kicking a good through- ball and going for goal.

George demonstrates some great ball control

As it seamlessly goes from head, knee, toe.

More interplay with Oliver and Sam T

Plus Jake Mo, making this a formidable three.

Then pressure is mounting from Westwood

George clears the ball (his connection is good).

Oliver tracks back as our solid last man

And saves our team from going one down.

Then Finch gains control and George takes aim

It’s palmed away for a corner (it’s an end to end game)

Then some great skill and neat footwork from Jake Mo

And a pass to Ajay. He shoots! It’s a goal!

And for courage, the prize goes to Mstr Bunn

Fouled by the keeper as they go one-on-one.

Lucas S heads away a threatening shot

(That’s the closest so far, that Westwood have got).

Then Kam comes on and makes a good call

With a controlled chest of an incoming ball.

James runs fast and makes a great cross

(There’s barely one tackle that the lad has lost)

Sam F shows skills of the silky sort

As he twists and turns players (he can’t be caught).

The ref blows his whistle- its half time already.

We’re buoyant. We’re chuffed – our team has been deadly.

~~~~~~
The second half starts, there’s an inch perfect pass
From Leo, who’s come on- and is showing some class.
Then against all the odds, the Westwood team score
Well. No worries, we think, we know we’ll score more.
Then Finch gain control with a good passage of play
Sam T chests a ball and sends Sam F on his way.
But the goal we expected, actually goes to Westwood
Who have a hard, angled shot (its’ sadly, quite good).
One-Two, but we know we can get one back
If we maintain focus and keep on track.
Then Lucas C plays a ball that’s quite sublime
To Nathaniel (whose run is perfectly timed).
Two goals apiece and we urge our team on.
They’re playing so well- it’s a game to be won.
Alfie comes on and runs fast down the line
And crosses the ball in perfect time.
Nathaniel’s speed is amazing to see
He flies down the pitch- he’s away and he’s free!
Then he and the keeper go toe-to-toe,
Nathaniel wins! He scores! It’s a THIRD goal!!!
And further attempts are made by our side
Nathaniel and Bunny going just slightly wide.
Our prayers for the whistle to blow are heard
It’s finished! We’ve won with that wonderful third!
Fantastic passing and fearless tackles
We deserved to win this right royal battle.
Cool heads from our strikers made a difference today
Plus keeper Luke who parried many away.
The progress this season is clear to see
Much thanks to Simon, Steve, Derren and Lee.
Finch vs Westwood Wanderers 3-2
