Hurricanes step it up their performance

Football played on a knife edge, is probably the best description of todays game. Westwood Wanderers play in a high level Oxford based league, were Div 1 EBYFL for 5 years and cup winners last year!! But the Hurricanes gave them a game right through to the final whistle and could have taken it to penalties with the chances they created in the last quarter of the game.

From the start of the game, it was being played at a fast pace, and physical too. Both teams were applying pressure, holding shape, pressing and advancing quickly with the ball.

Westwood scored first from a header off a cross to the back post. But our lads kept at them and were rewarded before half time with the equaliser from a wide right Lewis free kick for Alfie to stab home on the back post.

At half time they talked about desire and the need to be first to the ball, and they responded really well. Although Westwood got the second goal early on from a long through ball to the big number 20 striker, Finch were more hungry and committed.

The last 20 minutes were electric, with several Finch chances to take the game to penalties. A shot off the cross bar, almost lobbing the keeper and some thundering shots from the edge of the box. The home team looked the more likely to score.

A superb team performance from the lads, passing quality was high, movement off the ball was good, work rate was high, support for each other was clear to see and the passion/desire was there in bucket loads…..its fair to say they left everything on the pitch today.

Final Score – Finchampstead Hurricanes 1 – 2 Westwood Wanderers

Very proud of the lads and they should be proud of their own performances across the team!!
Well done all.
