Hat trick Hero Waight seals win for Wokingham

MATCH REPORT

Wokingham District Schools’ U11s vs Dacorum District Schools’ U11s 12/11/2016

Straight off the back of an impressive 6-0 win against Portsmouth, Wokingham looked to continue their unbeaten start to the season against a strong Dacorum side in Hemel Hempstead on Saturday.

After a fast-paced start, Zackary Waight found space down the left channel and smashed the ball into the bottom corner to give Wokingham an early lead. The first half continued to be an end to end game. Both teams had great chances: Wokingham with a disallowed goal and Dacorum with an effort which rattled the cross bar. But in the closing stages of the first half, it was Dacorum who found the back of the net to pull the game back level.

Dacorum, with a new lease of life, were very much on top at the start of the second half. With their high intensity passing game flowing from side to side, they whipped in a high cross which Max Hitchings could only fumble against his defender in the wet conditions for an own goal.

Wokingham needed to dig deep, and dig deep they did. The grit and determination to win shone through as the away side took control of the game. The equaliser soon followed, when Zackary Waight found space in the box to make contact with a Max Smith free kick poking the ball home.

As the Berkshire boys grew in confidence, Dacorum changed to two at the back as they tried to push up the pitch. Wokingham were up for the fight and with the extra space in the final third they made Dacorum pay. Two goals in quick succession, one from Scott Morgan and a third for Zackary Waight sealed the victory for the travelling team. An impressive fighting performance finishing at 4-2 which maintains Wokingham’s perfect start to the season. On Saturday, the Wokingham boys compete in the Shires Cup Quarter Final against local rivals Woking.
