Although the match didn’t go the Hurricanes way, the lads put up a spirited fight against top of the league Farnham.
Certainly a better start for the Hurricanes to the game than last week’s away game and a strong finish to the game.
Farnham’s
pressure across the pitch showed as the normal solid possession game
from Finch wasn’t able to get going, putting them on the back foot
especially when Finch were breaking. The Hurricanes were giving Farnham a
bit too much space to play in, making it harder.
There
were chances to get back into the game towards the end of the first
half and during the second half, even after going 2-0 down. The curling
Finch shot from the edge of the box beat the keeper to make it 2-1. And
then the Finch pressure was on, playing with numbers up and chasing the
equaliser. Shot off the cross bar and a point blank super-human save
from their keeper kept the score to 2-1 in spite of the Finch dominance.
The ball didn’t quite fall for the lads and Farnham were getting
numbers back to make it difficult.
Unfortunately the
Hurricanes couldn’t break through the red shirts and were eventually
caught out to make it 3-1 to the visitors, final score.
Lots
of effort and commitment from the lads against a strong organised team.
There are a few things they can learn from today and take into training
and next weeks game, so plenty of positives to build on.
Abbey have leap frogged Finch to take 2nd place after beating Haslemere 6-1.
Finch remains 4th place with the same points as Haslemere with a game in hand, so should make for an exciting away match next week.
Well done lads, Good effort
