Convincing win against last years runners up

After last seasons 4-1 defeat at home and 4-3 win away and this seasons very very close 2-1 loss away…..it was going to be an epic game!! The lads definitely wanted some payback.

Burpham were out of the blocks with lightning pace, bursting through from the midfield but not able to capitalise through a mix of saves and good defending under pressure. And then Finch switched it on. A very close chance from a left field cross in front of the keeper should have given Burpham the warning….and then the first goal off another cross from the same side to get the Hurricanes ahead. 1-0.

Burpham kept playing the long ball with 3 fast strikers chasing. The pressure paid off and they got 2 goals in quick succession. The Hurricanes stepped it up another gear, winning more possession and playing football through the thirds. They absorbed the long ball pressure really well and were rewarded with 2 more goals before the break.

Half Time – Hurricanes 3-2 Burpham

Second half was played at the same furious pace, Finch maintaining possession well and winning the ball back quickly from Burpham. With the ball staying higher up the pitch it was only a matter of time before the lads got the 4th goal. Burpham tried to throw in everything to get back into the game, but kept losing the ball. A quick home team break and near post smashed in goal killed the game off.

Full Time Hurricanes 5-2 Burpham

Absolutely brilliant performance today from all of the lads. They held their shape, pressed hard, jockeyed well, worked for each other, played confidently from keeper through to the strikers, worked the width when they needed and played great possession based football. Importantly they kept their nerve, playing their way out of danger and keeping the ball. The lads have now beaten last years champions (Abbey 2-1) and now last years runners up, it shows how much they have progressed in their football as a team.
Long way to go and lots of football to play, but great place to build on!!

Well done all.
