Finchampstead Hurricanes 6 – 3 Oxshott
The Hurricanes were firing on all cylinders for the first half,
dominating possession and having all of the chances. The double chance
with the ball off the underside of the cross bar followed the goal line
clearance were the closest we came. Did all the right things, just
couldn’t quite beat the keeper and Oxshott were quick to get numbers
back behind the ball.
They started the second half
with the same lads who finished the first half, and a completely
different game. The passing quality had dropped off and Oxshott were
back in the game, more balanced in possession. Oxshott got their goal
early from a loose ball in the box after Dan’s initial save…..all it
took was a split second when the lads were frozen around the ball and
Oxshott took their chance. The lads kept pushing and looked the more
likely to score for the rest of the game, but just couldn’t link it
together. 0-1 final score.
Although Finch were a
little slow out of the blocks for the start of the next game, they very
quickly got their passing game up and took control. An early solo goal
from Morgan (who took a knock in the process) boosted the morale and the
football started to flow with control and confidence. Oxshott managed
to get a quick equaliser before a perfect Henry cross was headed in by
Ollie. 2-1 half time!!
Going into the final half,
the Hurricanes turned up the pressure on Oxshott with quick passing
football, maintaining possession well. Another wide cross from Ben M
picked out Ollie who slotted it home. Ollie setup Henry to make it 4-1,
now Finch were flying. Oxshott managed to get another goal back before
Henry setup Morgan to restore the 3 goal cushion (5-2). Jacob
unselfishly dinked the keeper to set James up for a tap in to finish
off. Oxshott kept going with tired legs and were able to squeeze one
more goal out with a goal mouth scramble, but the game was done by now.
Final score 6-3 with some of the best football played all season.
Across
all the lads, they all played really well today, working hard, linking
up well and supporting each other. Some superb passing (when you ignore
the 2nd half), great finishing in front of goal against a very competent
keeper. Oxshott were very complimentary of the Hurricanes, remarking
that they were the best team they’ve played against in the SPL league
especially for playing good football.
Todays win puts the lads 3 points clear in 5th, just 6 points behind joint 4th Send and Worplesdon with a game in hand.
