The 30th annual Wokingham Half Marathon took place yesterday with 2,275 runners setting off from Cantley House Hotel in Wokingham. This well organised event is the first half marathon in the area for 2016 and we are proud to be apart of it.
Our morning began with a few repairs to some wind battered stands and flags but it wasn’t long before the runners started arriving and readying themselves to brace strong winds and 13.1 miles of tarmac.
At 10am the race horn sounded and the runners set off at pace. With the front runners due back in just over an hour this didn’t leave us much time to get the finish line water set up and sneak off for a cheeky bacon roll… a must on a cold and windy Sunday morning event.
Short by only 30 seconds of the course record held by Phil Wicks, it was the international marathon runner Paul Pollock who ran in first and crossed the finish line in a time of 1.03.45.
The first lady to cross the finish line was Carol Mayer Jones in a time of 1.14.45 and she was closely followed by Sonya Samuels.
We have created a short clip to give a small overview of this fun event, watch it here
