Southern Counties Cup – Quarter Final
Gloucester v Wokingham
Wokingham District U11 Representative Team advanced to the Semi Finals of the Southern Counties Cup after a strong team performance against Gloucester on Saturday.
Despite having the majority of possession in the first half and restricting Gloucester to just a few half chances – the defence and goalkeeper, Pranav Ganti, all on form and determined to beat the opposition. The first half ended goalless as Wokingham were unable to out manoeuvre the equally dogged Gloucester backline – even with Ejiro Abbey and Harry Pashley’s trickery.
Wokingham moved the ball quicker in the second half and subsequently created more opportunities. As a result, the Berkshire boys took the lead thanks to an Archie Shefford glancing header from a Sam Robinson corner. Wokingham continued to push for a second and it came with ten minutes to go as George Weston-Brown slid in at the back post to meet Josh Murray’s cross.
A clean sheet and a great team performance sees Wokingham advance to the Semi Finals where they could face St Albans, Wycombe or Stevenage. Wokingham are next in action on Saturday competing in the Premier League District Cup (South Regional Finals) hoping to progress to National Finals.
Final Score – Gloucester 0-2 Wokingham
Well done all
