On Saturday 7th October 2017, This year’s Wokingham District Schools’ U11 Representative Team began their Surrey League title defence with a solid away victory against a talented Croydon side.

After an unbeaten preseason, in which Wokingham produced some emphatic victories, it was important they remained focused and were not complacent for this opening fixture. Wokingham started the game at a high tempo and were causing Croydon problems down both flanks. After ten minutes, it was winger, Josh Murray, who opened the scoring finding space in the box and volleying into the top corner. Despite many chances for Wokingham, the score remained 1-0 at half time.

Croydon pushed players forward in the second half in search of an equaliser but it was Wokingham who doubled their lead after Emil Mursalov was fouled in the box and then dispatched the resulting penalty. Wokingham worked hard and defended resiliently in order to protect their lead with Pranav Ganti also on top form..
