STUNNING LODGE HOUSE - noir by david cliff - I first fell in love with this house some 20 yrs ago and didn`t want to leave so am delighted to have been called back by the current owners.
They have carried out major renovations over the years and gone to some quite extraordinary lengths to preserve, improve and maximise what this stunning home can offer and it really doesn`t disappoint.
Built in the late 1800`s West Lodge really does show the precision and attention to detail that the craftsmen of this era prided themselves on, the stunning elevations showing off the intricate brickwork, roof lines and period features.
As you approach just turning off Jouldings lane it is worth noting that the ground running alongside to the right is all owned by West Lodge so you really do control the whole approach, you also get your first glimpse of this stunning building. Turning into the cleverly redesigned driveway you have two stages here, the initial parking area provides good space for multiple vehicles, you then also have the cobbled, gated courtyard which provides even more parking if needed but more interestingly for me leaves a great area for the dogs to roam. I`m sure it will seem strange making so much of a courtyard but this to me says a lot about this property and its history not to mention the true practical benefits.......
Walking in through the courtyard to the covered entrance area you really can’t wait to get inside and see what this home holds. The huge entrance hall shows you the first glimpse of just how well this contemporary feel has blended in with the true period exterior. Looking left and right takes your eye line to both ends of the property and you begin to understand how there could be just over 3000 sq ft here.
Double doors take you left into the most incredible triple aspect vaulted living room with windows over two levels, you may not have seen this before, and doors leading out onto one of the many redesigned terrace areas. The central fire place gives the warm cosy feel to such a vast room with the seating set around it, so easy to imagine relaxing here.
The study is again a great size, light and bright and a very easy shape to furnish so offers some versatile space that could be used however you wish. Again here you can see the style of décor and furniture really shows off the style this home offers.
The kitchen / dining space has been totally transformed from top to bottom, walls moved, spaces opened and then a total re-design. The outcome is a simply beautiful 32ft kitchen, dining, living space that the whole family can enjoy and is great for entertaining with the high quality appliances and exquisite finish. In addition to the stunning kitchen you have a huge utility/ boot/ dog room with direct access to the outside gardens and gated courtyard, this room is so useful from a practical point of view and has been equally beautifully fitted.
Leading on from the main house but linked lies the garaging, the new doors are now handle less with electromagnet locking, not only a great sleek look but security wise they are fantastic. Whilst the main home is a great size I have my own ideas here and would love to see a partial conversion at some point to create even more living space and with the secure parking do you really need all that garaging?
Moving upstairs you have beautiful bedrooms and the character is again easy to see yet has again been blended with a lovely contemporary feel and look. The master is stunning with a dual aspect giving views of the gardens and trees beyond, the beautifully crafted built in robes are sleek and leave you with so much floor space it really has the feel of a high end hotel suite.
The re-designed family bathroom deserves its own mention, you could easily find yourself just looking around at the quality of what has been created here. A great size with stunning freestanding roll top bath and separate huge walk in shower, the flooring, period feature radiator and colour scheme just look wonderful.
Bedrooms two, three and four are then individual in their own ways and have their own feel but the high standard remains throughout with bedroom three actually having its very own en suite bathroom.
Moving outside you could easily lose time just wandering and looking at the detail of the build as well as appreciating the design of the gardens and the re-designed terraces the current owners have taken charge of and delivered. The stonework and edgings have been sympathetically chosen to be in tune with the original build and to give several different areas to enjoy the sun privacy throughout the day and seasons....very thoughtfully done. A well respected local builder who speacilizes in period renovations has been trusted to carry out all the works that have taken place here at West Lodge and you can see it was well worth it.
