PERIOD PERFECTION - noir by david cliff - It`s not often you get the chance to see or own a four storey home anywhere but to find one in the town centre with no through traffic to worry about has to be almost impossible.....but today we have one for you and it`s beautiful.
As you approach walking up the road your eye is drawn to Bow Cottage, or at least mine was, it`s a good looking period home and one that intrigues you to see what’s going on inside. Wandering in you have a lovely front reception room with bay window and you feel like just taking a seat, so i did, then saw the open fire and began to appreciate the high ceilings and then the consistent theme throughout which is the incredible light that floods in.
The central dining room works incredibly well, often a room in these homes that you `walk through` but not at Bow Cottage, it really works. The open plan feel to the kitchen causes a great feel of a continuous space that you really use, it becomes the heart of the home and then the living room becomes the quiet cosy place, really lovely feel. The kitchen itself is well fitted and with window and door to the outside that theme of light again really hits you. Beyond lies the re-fitted bathroom which has been really well done with bath and shower so the ground floor is looking really good.....but then you have the basement still to go and whilst rugged and rough it does what you need it to do and to be honest it`s just cool to have one!
So, moving to the first floor, what fantastic rooms they are and because you are already elevated because you are higher up the road you have a great feeling of height here, lovely large windows and the continuous chimney breast so some really stunning fireplaces in both. The strip wood floors follow on from downstairs and naturally enhance every feature you see, they kind of set the scene in away.
The very top floor is original which may surprise you, after all they were quite clever back then and we forget that sometimes, after all they did build this beautiful home. This space gives bedrooms three and four being 12 and 14 ft long so no pokey loft room with no room to swing a cat, these are real spaces and for bedrooms, dens or an office give great versatility which is a key extra in a period home, and all with huge eaves storage. The views from here you can imagine are pretty impressive so don`t be surprised if you find yourself gazing.
Outside you find a great size garden, established as you might expect but it really does suit the home. Hard to tell at this time of year but it`s impressive enough to have you knowing that you`ll be loving it come spring and summer. For those of you that might want to hide from your better half you have a recently re-roofed garden shed so great for all the tools and equipment you`ll need to make your own mark.
All in all this is a rare home and one of a style that you may not see again let alone have the chance to own so don`t miss out.
