It was our last home game of the season with our final game away to Haslemere on 5th May. It was due to be full team turn out, but Ben M was ill and had to drop out.

Bourne won the decision and elected to play into the wind to start with. The Hurricanes were straight in from the kick off, pressing Bourne and creating space. And they took to lead when Max’s shot was turned into the net for an own goal. Marcus was struggling and had to retire from the game with a hip issue. Finch kept pilling the pressure on, playing off Jake’s wind assisted distribution. Ollie worked the ball down the line and cut back to Adam, who’s scuffed shot put the ball to Lewis, who rifled it into the net from the edge of the penalty box. 2-0.

There were more chances to cut the ball across the goal, but they were played too close to the keeper. Bourne were starting to get back into the game and creating their own chances now. Finch’s defence were making it difficult for Bourne and Jake was able to deal with all of their shots….only 1 shot beat Jake in the end and that one took a big deflection. At the other end one of the key moments in the game came when Max was pushed off the ball as he went in for a header on the 6 yard line from a Lewis cross….but couldn’t put the awarded penalty away. 2-1 half time score.

In the second half Bourne were playing deeper, getting numbers in front of the ball. The game was still end-to-end with both teams defending well and trying to counter quickly. Finch weren’t able to find a way through the Bourne lines. On the back of one of their counters, Bourne won a penalty from what looked like a soft challenge in the corner of the penalty box and put the ball just out of Jake’s diving reach to level up the scores. 2-2

A long ball clearance found the Bourne striker in space and he was able to get his shot away just ahead of Jacob’s challenge. Although Jake got a hand to it, he couldn’t divert it enough. 3-2. Unfortunately Jacob cracked his knee on the ground trying to get the block in and had to come off. And shortly after that Dan had to drop out with a foot issue. Finch continued to battle for the equaliser committing numbers forwards, but just couldn’t create the opportunity in front of Bourne’s goal. Alfie also had to drop out in the final minutes of the game with pain in his back. Jake made another brilliant save tipping the ball over the cross bar. 3-2 final score.

The lads worked really hard today against a strong Bourne team and had done enough to get something out of the game today with the chances they created. Thank you to Andy for running the line and hope Marcus, Jacob, Alfie and Dan speedy recoveries.

In the league Abbey Youth drew against Badshot 1-1 and the win for Bourne puts them at the top of the table by 1 point above Badshot. Virginia Waters stopped Haslemere from claiming top spot with a 2-1 win. The Hurricanes remain 5th with 1 game to play.
