Southern Counties Cup Round 1 – Saturday 15th October

Wokingham District U11s 2 – 0 Thurrock District U11s

The game started at a frantic pace with both sides pressing well but struggling to keep possession for any sustained period of time. Once the game settled down both teams began to create some chances with Scott Morgan coming close with an acrobatic effort from inside the box. At the other end, Max Hitchings was on top form demonstrating great handling ability when threatened by the Thurrock attack. The deadlock was broken though close to half time when Brandon Kingsbury was able to turn his marker in the box and then drove a powerful shot across the keeper into the net.

The second half began with a similar frantic pace but Max Smith and the Wokingham defence were able to break up play whenever Thurrock we advancing towards the Wokingham half. It was Max Smith who, later in the second half, was able to double the Wokingham lead from penalty spot after Zackary Waight was fouled in the box. After the second goal, chances for both teams were limited and Wokingham were able to keep their second clean sheet in a row and progress to the next round. In the quarter finals, Wokingham will be at home to either Dacorum or Newbury. Wokingham are back in Surrey League action this week against Croydon in which the team look to make it three straight wins.
