Finchampstead Hurricanes took on Badshot
From the first whistle, both teams were clearly up for the game and the pace was blistering. The Finch 3 midfields won their battles against the wider 4 man Badshot midfield keeping the ball further up the pitch. The Finch 3 attackers took it to the 4 man backline, forcing them back and creating space in front of goal. And the 4 man Finch defence gave Badshot no space and opportunity to get a clear shot away pressing and jockeying to win the ball back time and time again. Jake gave the lads a good outlet to clear the ball from danger, commanded his box and showed confidence in his handling and coming for the ball (including a big punch in the final minutes of the game).
Finch broke the deadlock from an Alfie long ball free kick which Max chested into the net, beating their keeper and 2 defenders. Badshot hit the upright with a shot, but that was the closest them came to scoring.
In the second half the visitors came back into the game, the Finch defence sitting back giving them more time and space. But couldn’t hit the target or get their shot away. Once the gaps were closed up, Finch gradually got back on top again and gave Adam the opportunity to hit the top left goal with an amazing free kick, just out of reach of their keeper. And finally Ollie’s trademark determination was rewarded with a tap in when their keeper spilled the ball.
Jack and Alfie picked up knocks in the action so had to come off early. The last 10 minutes were played with 4-4-2 to see the game out and protect the clean sheet. Jake had to punch clear a dangerous long ball into the box. Finch kept playing right to the final whistle. So the Hurricanes got the all important clean sheet and all the points. Every player stepped up their game as individuals and as team, good combination play and good possession of the ball. A pleasure to watch.
So congratulations to our superb Hurricanes. There weren’t any other league games played today for some reason, so they are currently sitting top of the league table on 6 points from 3 games.
