Sunday 24th September

Burpham V Finchampstead Hurricanes

What a match……..

Full on attack from both Finch and Burpham. After the 2 close games last season with a win for both teams, and Burphams draw 1-1 against Abbey last week, this was always going to be a close match.

Plus two different styles of football on display. Hurricanes more possession based, Burpham more counter attacking.

First half saw the Hurricanes in good possession under pressure in the first two thirds of the pitch, but the final third was rushed or long ball, too direct and snuffed out by the Burpham back line. But the Hurricanes did get create better chances. Burpham started shooting from distance, but got the opener with a break down their right catching the Hurricanes a bit flat footed.

Second half saw a change in the play in the final third, getting numbers forward and working the ball across from wide on occasions. Great combinations rather than hopeful over-the-top balls. The Hurricanes were putting on the pressure and rewarded with a left field shot from Ben M into the back of the net (1-1).
Burpham rallied but the Hurricanes kept creating chances in their box, but couldn’t get past their keeper.
Final seconds of play, another fast counter attack got Burpham a free kick right on the edge of the box. Driven shot through the wall, saving parry from Ben A but no red/black shirt to clean up afterwards and Burpham took the 3 points with the last kick of the game.

What a determined team performance, they did enough to win but couldn’t take their chances when they counted.Loads of positives to build on and really encouraging start to the season. There is no doubt this is going to be a tough season for the lads in the Premier, but one which will push their football on to the next level.

Final Score
Burpham 2 – 1 Finchampstead Hurricanes

Well done all.
