Another close encounter....

Following the close 2-1 loss at Abbey in the pre-season friendly on Sunday 1st October, the lads were up for some Finch style payback. And a great opening game at Finch on the fabulous Large Leas pitch.

As expected both teams got stuck in from the kick off and the game was played at a fast pace. The Hurricanes trying to play their passing game and Abbey looking for the fast counter with 3 up top at times.

The Hurricanes took first blood with a wide delivery across the box, through lots of legs and out to the unmarked Lewis on the back post, never in doubt of the result from that distance. 1-0.

Abbey struggled for a spell with their passing and support but they kept the pressure up. Finch struggled with hitting the target on passes and being too direct on the through balls. Both teams had chances to score before half time, but Abbey got their equaliser just before the whistle on the break following a “not quite what they practiced in training” Finch attacking corner. 1-1.

The second half was frantic and scrappy, both teams looking to counter for the next goal. Abbey with their long deliveries, Finch with possession through the thirds. Some quick feet on the right wing delivered the perfect cross for Adam to toe in to the net, exactly as they had done in training on Thursday night!! With time running out Abbey were throwing everything forwards and the lads did well to limit their chances and create breaking opportunities of their own.

Final score 2-1.

A very well deserved result, ground out the win against last seasons Championship winners!! The lads have really stepped up to this higher level of football.

Well done all.
