Sunday 30th April
1st Game – Worplesdon 4 – 3 Finchampstead Hurricanes
2nd Game – Worplesdon 2 – 6 Finchampstead Hurricanes
The final double header took the Hurricanes to Guildford to play 3rd place Worplesdon.
The Hurricanes started well, able to make good progress
into Worplesdon’s half with their passing. But couldn’t create anything
from their chances under the pressure of their defensive line.
Worplesdon started to close the lads down more quickly and were able to
take their chances from Finch mistakes. 2-0 half time. Rocket required
in the team talk and a few jelly babies.
The
opposition were quick to get a 3rd goal before the Hurricanes could get
back into the swing of the game. And a wind assisted long ball took it
to 4-0. Game should have been out of sight…..but then the Hurricanes
turned it on!! 2 individual goals and a goal from a left wing cross, 4-3
and game on. Hurricanes were playing with their normal confidence
again, passing the ball and cutting through Worplesdon. A few more
minutes and the lads could have got the draw, looking the more likely
team to score. 4-3 to Worplesdon.
The second game
was a completely different game, with all the same lads in the same
positions and all the same changes. The confidence, determination and
desire was there across the team…carried on from the end of the first
game even after all the sub changes. The passing quality was back and
very quickly Finch were 1-0 up from a corner. They pressed Worplesdon
across the pitch and forced their mistakes, and were able to get 2 more
goals before the half time break. 3-0. Loads more jelly babies required.
Worplesdon
tried to get back into the game having had a rocket from their manager
at half time, and got it back to 3-2 from a couple of quick goals. But
the Hurricanes stayed calm and won a penalty (which was taken well) and
then 2 more goals. And there could have been more. Final score 6-2 to
Finch.
Overall across the 2 games it was 9-6 to
finch. The lads were definitely the better team overall and could have
taken all 6 points. Got to love them!!
Well done lads.
