Finchamstead Hurricanes take on Worplesdon – The Results
Worplesdon’s form against the stronger teams in the league had
improved over the past few weeks and today was going to be a tough match
if the Hurricanes didn’t control the game. The Hurricanes turned up
ready for the game and took it to the blues from the kick off. Holding
their shape, cutting off Worplesdon’s attacks and creating lots and lots
of chances from within the first few minutes right through to the final
whistle.
Callum confidently drilled home the
penalty after Ollie was tripped in the box to get the scoring going.
Henry unselfishly setup goals on the break for Alfie and then Callum.
Ollie hit the target to make it 4-0 when Lewis played him through. Henry
was put through and used his pace to create chances but couldn’t quite
roll the ball into the far corner, before finally getting his goal from a
perfect Ollie through ball. And Ollie closed the scoring at 6-0 when
Morgan played him through with a pin-point pass over the top. Its also
great to see that a number of the other lads also had opportunities to
get onto the score sheet.
But today was about the
team and how they played for each other to defend and attack. The hard
graft and determination in the midfield with Lewis, James, Cam, Adam and
Marcus denied the away team from really getting going, hunting in packs
and winning the ball back time and time again. And the solid defensive
work from Billy, Nat, Alfie, Jacob and Morgan meant Worplesdon didn’t
really have any serious chances to test Ben A, as well as being quick to
push up and support on the break. And Ben’s control of the ball and
distribution was putting Finch on the attack throughout the game.
Worplesdon
were boxed in under the Finch pressure for much of the game. I don’t
think Worplesdon necessarily played badly, but more that the Hurricanes
played so brilliantly well. It was all about determination, desire and
commitment as a Finch team today. And although there were some feisty
moments in the match, our lads kept their heads and focused on the jobs
that needed doing.
Final Score
Hurricanes 6-0 Worplesdon
Well done all!!
So 10 games in, 6 games
plus at least 1 cup game still to play. Todays result puts the
Hurricanes just 2 points behind Worplesdon (5th) and Haslemere (6th),
and only 3 points behind Claygate (3rd) and Burpham (4th). After their
shaky start to the season, Claygate beat Burpham to catch them on points
whilst Haslemere were beaten by 2nd place Abbey.
