Wokingham 4-1 Portsmouth

On Saturday 1st October, Wokingham District Primary Schools’ U11 Representative Team began their Surrey League campaign away to Portsmouth. After a slow start by Wokingham, S.Morgan found himself brought down in the final third. M.Smith stepped up for the free-kick and Kingsbury’s dramatic celebration made his tap in look like a cup final winning goal.

The opening goal gave Wokingham a real boost as they continued to storm forward. Minutes later, H.Goode swung in a superb cross and Pompey’s keeper did well to tip S.Morgan’s effort round the post. Wokingham couldn’t capitalise on their attacks and soon found themselves back level as a fumbled cross was smashed in by the home side: 1-1. Moments after a goal mouth scramble was cleared by Portsmouth, Wokingham won a penalty as S.Morgan was once again at the heart of things and was brought down in the box. Club captain, M.Smith, again stepped up and coolly slotted the penalty into the corner.

The second half brought more of the same as S.Morgan was once again tripped in the box allowing M.Smith to double his tally from the spot. Wokingham’s fourth was the pick of the bunch. N.Muza collected the ball in the opposition’s half, turned his defender and smashed home a 25 yard screamer which went in off the bar. The final score, an impressive 4-1 victory for Wokingham who play Kingston next in the Surrey League.
