Finchampstead Hurricanes 2 -3 Walton Juniors
With a few absences today, the lads took on Walton. We had a very close game last time with them (before Nick Benham’s car got locked in a school) and they were definitely fired up to revenge the lads win.
The lads were trying hard but not quite at the races in the first half. Second to the ball or muscled off it, passing it back to them. Having said that there were very few opportunities at either end, but Walton got 2 ahead. (more…)

Southern Counties League

A massive well done to The Hurricanes winning 5-0 to Farncombe yesterday.
Quite an eventful morning as they travel to Farncombe. Farncombe have had some exceptional results against 1st and 2nd in the league and some very close games with the other top teams, so it was not looking like a push over especially with just 11 players on a big muddy pitch. (more…)
Hat trick Hero Waight seals win for Wokingham
Wokingham District Schools’ U11s vs Dacorum District Schools’ U11s 12/11/2016
Straight off the back of an impressive 6-0 win against Portsmouth, Wokingham looked to continue their unbeaten start to the season against a strong Dacorum side in Hemel Hempstead on Saturday. (more…)
9 goal thriller to get the Championship league underway!!
Farncombe were quick on the break and used this to get ahead early on, but the lads stayed calm and played their game. Well taken left footed half volley to open the seasons score sheet and draw level.
Then both teams got quick second goals. And then the Hurricanes stepped it up, keeping close control of the ball on the bobbly pitch. 3-2 half time and looking in control.
Here at David Cliff we are very pleased to offer a facility that allows you all to get an immediate online sales or lettings valuation of your home (Supported by Land Registry data). Please feel free to give it a try and of course feel free to call us with all your property needs in the future..
Southern Counties Cup Round 1 – Saturday 15th October
Wokingham District U11s 2 – 0 Thurrock District U11s
The game started at a frantic pace with both sides pressing well but struggling to keep possession for any sustained period of time. Once the game settled down both teams began to create some chances with Scott Morgan coming close with an acrobatic effort from inside the box. At the other end, Max Hitchings was on top form demonstrating great handling ability when threatened by the Thurrock attack. The deadlock was broken though close to half time when Brandon Kingsbury was able to turn his marker in the box and then drove a powerful shot across the keeper into the net. (more…)

A much tighter game resulted in more tactical changes, all of which played off with George replacing Harvey having run his socks off, Rhys replacing Rory for the same reasons and Liam to add some stability in front of the back four. Our only criticism from the first half was failing to score good opportunities and making the final ball more effective. The second half saw a great start from Uxbridge which we expected and during these periods of the game it’s critical we maintain discipline and control. I thought we did this excellently and waited for the opportunity to present itself. Once again, the combination of Sam and Rory played off and with a fourth goal in 4 games Rory finds the net to give us the all important winner.

Finchampstead Hurricanes win 7-0 over Lyne Youth Panthers
We are proud to support the Finchampstead Hurricanes U14 football team and are really pleased to see they are making their mark on the league.
Simply brilliant….what a treat!! Fantastic way for our first home game in the beautiful Finch setting.
They shut down quickly, stopped Lyne from really being able to play. The defensive group and keeper were special today, dealing with every threat including a penalty. And they played for each other and enjoyed the game. Super skills, covering each other, amazing goals….each one different in build up and finish. A hatrick and 5 different goal scorers and 4 different players assisting in the goals. And the all important clean sheet as well.
Lyne are a good side, coming into this game on the back of 2 big wins. It just goes to show how good the Hurricanes were. Now we need to keep this up as we go into the next round of the County Cup against FC Holyport from the Thames Valley Youth Development league.
Thank you to Andy for running the line.

Wokinham District Primary Schools’ – FA
Jersey Tour 2nd – 9th April 2016
As proud sponsors of the Wokingham District Primary Schools – FA, it’s great to be able to bring you updates on how our young local talent is getting on. This past weekend the WDPS squad returned from what was clearly a very enjoyable tour of Jersey. Here is a small extract from their tour blog. Have a read….
Wokingham 4-3 Barking
The Wokingham boys began the Jersey Tour with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Barking. After going one behind from a lucky long range looping shot, the boys responded well and were two up at half time thanks to goals from H.Mott (calm finish after being put through by Collier) and F.Coleman (top corner strike from outside the box). The second half was more frantic and the boys were able to seal the victory thanks to two more goals from H.Mott to seal his Jersey Tour hatrick. The boys worked hard and competed well against a physical Barking side – a great winning start to the tour (MOM H.Mott).

Another end to end game in the Surrey League this week saw Wokingham capitalise on the very few chances they were given in the first half. It all started when Wokingham’s front man, Henry Mott, was slipped through down the middle and held his nerve to slot it into the bottom corner calmly under pressure. Next on the score sheet was Ballard, who thumped in a rocket of a shot from 25 yards which crashed off the bar and over the line. Wokingham’s front 4 were in fine form in the closing stages of the first half, as Alfie Edmonds produced a fantastic bit of skill to put the ball through his opponents legs on the half way line, gallop down the touch line and whip in a lovely ball for Mott to volley into the top corner from the edge of the box. The perfect technique left the supporters silenced – a debatable winner for goal of the season so far without doubt.
On Sunday 6th March we spent a bright and sunny morning supporting the Reddam House 5k, 10k and family fun run. With ample desks to get registered for event, a well laid out course and the option of tea, cake or hot dogs on sale for all, it must be said… the day was well organised by the Reddam House PTA.
At 9:30am, all the runners of the 5k and 10k set off at pace, we however made our way over to the cake stand and enjoyed a hot cup of tea and the views over the lakes! The first runners came home in what seemed like lighting times with all participants having completed the course within a few hours. Each runner received a medal and a goodie bag as a reminder of the day. (more…)
The 30th annual Wokingham Half Marathon took place yesterday with 2,275 runners setting off from Cantley House Hotel in Wokingham. This well organised event is the first half marathon in the area for 2016 and we are proud to be apart of it.
Our morning began with a few repairs to some wind battered stands and flags but it wasn’t long before the runners started arriving and readying themselves to brace strong winds and 13.1 miles of tarmac.
At 10am the race horn sounded and the runners set off at pace. With the front runners due back in just over an hour this didn’t leave us much time to get the finish line water set up and sneak off for a cheeky bacon roll… a must on a cold and windy Sunday morning event.
Short by only 30 seconds of the course record held by Phil Wicks, it was the international marathon runner Paul Pollock who ran in first and crossed the finish line in a time of 1.03.45.
The first lady to cross the finish line was Carol Mayer Jones in a time of 1.14.45 and she was closely followed by Sonya Samuels.
We have created a short clip to give a small overview of this fun event, watch it here https://youtu.be/nZwMzjnMtRc
Why not take a look at the Full Start video here ‘ https://youtu.be/zdiLcrfEkiE ‘ and see if you can spot anyone you know!!
Thanks again to everyone involved!!
This wet and windy affair saw these two local teams meet for the fourth time this season. But it was the weather conditions who had the upper hand from the start, both teams struggling to get a hold of the game in the opening stages.
Although Wokingham were unable to string a series of passes together, they looked the better side in the remaining minutes of the first half. Mott tested the keeper from long range on a number of occasions and down the other end Lewens was quick off his line and started the attacks with confidence.
The only goal of the half came in the 24th minute when a Wokingham corner found Mott with the ball at his feet towards the back post. He calmly hammered it home into the top corner to give the visitors the advantage. (more…)
Saturday’s game between Wokingham District Under 11s and Merton was another all-action affair in which Wokingham had to show true determination and quality to successfully secure 3 points with a strong 4-1 win.
The game started in an explosive fashion with both teams looking strong on the attack, but it was Wokingham who made the breakthrough as an inch-perfect through-ball by Dominic Ballard split the Merton defence in half and saw Henry Mott slot in his first real chance of the game.
Wokingham’s high intensity paid off as Finlay Coleman won the ball in the final third of the pitch, played it wide to Henry Mott who whipped in a lovely ball across the six yard box for Coleman to smash it home the return pass.
The second half saw much of the same as Edmonds continued to drive the Wokingham boys forward, countlessly taking on players down the right hand side and delivering dangerous balls across the face of the goal. (more…)
Never has the saying a game of two halves ever been so true. From the best to the worst, this was a rollercoaster of a fixture…
Dacorum away was the first fixture for Wokingham after the Christmas break. The bobble hats and gloves were on show on the touch lines as the boys prepared for this bitterly cold affair. Wokingham warmed up strongly, looking sharp and raring to go before the whistle was blown to signal the start of the match.
And what a start to the match it was! Wokingham certainly had the upper hand in the opening few minutes; pressing high, keeping great shape and all-in-all knocking the ball about confidently, showcasing some fantastic passing manoeuvres. Ballard was at the heart of many of the attacks, flashing two shots narrowly wide in as many minutes.
Wokingham continued to look strong with Dacorum’s quick, early passes down the channels snuffed out by Collier, Coleman and Sunley, to name a few. But it was Wokingham who continued to press and the only way Ballard could be stopped was if Dacorum brought him down and conceded a free-kick. That’s exactly what happened and the Wokingham side were able to capitalise. A brilliant looping free-kick by Ballard found Mott at the back post. With a side-footed volley to put Wokingham 1-0 up, the striker accepted the invite and finished in cool fashion. (more…)

To everyone who reads this post during the month of January… As you might know we take great pride in sponsoring the Wokingham District U11s football team and wanted to ask you to get behind them too.

So, the next time you pass through Waitrose please keep the team in mind as they would really appreciate your support.
Wokingham got back to winning ways with a hard fought 2-1 win over a very competent Swindon side.
After some early Wokingham possession and chances, Swindon struck against the run of play to go 1-0 up. Wokingham failed to clear a corner allowing the ball to bounce several times across the goal before a Swindon player stooped low to head the ball beyond Lewens.
The rest of the first half was Wokingham all the way, with both Johnson and Coleman going close before a solo effort from Mott brought the teams level. Finishing low to the keepers left after leaving 3 Swindon defenders on the floor. (more…)
Wokingham’s good run of form came to a disappointing end at Championship contenders St Albans.
A game that ebbed and flowed in a competitive first half saw Wokingham come close to taking the lead through Mott, who saw his half volley tipped over the bar from an excellent St Albans Goalkeeper.
20 mins in and disaster struck as Lewen came to claim a high ball and was accidently caught high on the thigh, which ended his morning and possibly Wokingham’s chances of a result. A quick reshuffle of the team and a selfless step up from Athey to go in goal meant that Wokingham were always going to be on the back foot from that moment.
Two very quick St Albans goals followed just before half time, which dampened the boys spirits. But a good chat from Bevan ( The manager ) at the break, seemed to rejuvenate the team and they ran out with all guns blazing. Mott almost sneaking in a whipped in cross from Edmonds, and then Coleman saw a long range effort just curl wide of the right hand post. It was game back on.
Another blowy morning saw Wokingham District Primary Schools U11’s face a tough Wycombe team who were sitting just a point behind Wokingham in the Southern Counties League, and looking to make a statement.
Wycombe came out of the blocks well and forced Ben Lewens to make some sharp saves, which he did with aplomb.
Some neat interchange between Coleman and Edmonds saw the Wycombe keeper called into action for the first time, tipping over a well-timed volley from Henry Mott. (more…)

Hi everyone, I attended the Wokingham Christmas market along with a few thousand other Wokingham folk recently and had a fantastic time with the family. I returned to the office on Monday and decided we would try and do a few more festive things in the lead up to Christmas.
